Many engineers are not connected to customers,resulting in solutions that lack high impact and benefit.But by combining design thinking with Agile, we createinnovations that delight our customers. In this session,attendees will see how a design thinking model calledDesign for Delight is applied within Agile frameworks todeliver thoughtful and inclusive solutions that can changethe world.In summary, here is what you will learn from our talk:- Design for Delight, D4D, is a Design thinking framework which has 3 principles: Deep Customer Empathy, Go Broad to Go Narrow and Rapid Prototyping – all three can be integrated into SDLC.- In your team’s agile process (like SCRUM), you can apply design thinking principles and methodology at all phases of the process: from planning to implementation.- Prior to designing the architecture and the customer flow, engineers need to take an active role in learning from customers (and gain deep customer empathy) so that solutions are customer backed. When we design for delight, we create impactful, meaningful and beneficial solutions for customers.- In the maintenance phase of SDLC, engineers and their teams can continue to learn from customers on the solutions they have deployed in order to address issues in the experience.- When engineers practice design thinking methodology in their day to day, they deliver more complete solutions for customers with speed.

Aliza Carpio is technology evangelist at Intuit. In her role, she focuses on initiatives that create an awesome tech culture for technologists, which helps buildIntuit’s tech brand. She started her career as systems engineer and has followed her passion for learning which has led her current role. She is a lead Innovation Catalyst at Intuit who coaches teams within and outside of Intuit on design thinking and best practice on experimentation. She is inventor with over 10 filed patents and podcast host (Tech Heroes). Outside of work, she helps female led micro businesses grow their business using social media platforms and coaches San Diego-based startups on design thinking. She was speaker at GHC 2019 and is GHC 2020 Open Source co-chair. Aliza graduated from the University of California, San Diego with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry.
Sonia May-Patlan is a software engineer at Intuit and also a lead Innovation Catalyst who coaches Intuit technologists on design thinking model, Design for Delight (D4D). As part of this role, she conducts multiple internal training sessions and coaches teams on design thinking. Externally, she speaks and leads workshops on D4D – most recently at the UX Edmonton conference in 2018 and 2019. Sonia holds a MSc in Computer Science from Ludwig Maximilians University Munich, Germany.
